Dave,
Thank you so much for the pictures. You would have gotten a thrill to hear Ozzie's telephone conversations to all his friends and family telling them all about the different fish he caught and how much fun he had. It was truly the highlight of his vacation. We were so fortunate to have picked the day we went. Things really turned the next day with the cold front.
Thanks again and we will definitely be in touch the next trip down.
Regards, Ozzie, Linda and Ozzie Rodriguez
Dave,
I enjoyed fishing with you and had a great day. I have fished all over the world and Saturday was amoung the best days I have ever had. Three bones, a tarpon, a permit, a barracuda, a grouper, two sharks and lots of snapper...not a bad day's work. I hope to see you again as soon as my arm recovers!
Thanks, Addis Hilliker
Dave: Just wanted to say thanks for the great trip down the South Branch a week ago Monday. Therese and I had a great time. The fish, the muskrats, the birds, the river itself were all a treat. And thanks for the fly you gave me to put on toward the end of the day -- it was some kind of brown drake pattern of your own design with an egg case at its butt. We jokingly called it the "Osama" fly. The next night I had great success with it up on the Pigeon -- caught two browns and a nice rainbow in 15 minutes. The Pigeon is a pretty little stream with good wading water, by the way. Could you give me your recipe for that pattern? I'd like to try to tie some up. I hope the hex hatch is good and that you don't get burned out during this your busy stretch.
Take care. Tom Creamer
Hi Dave, The Browns and we had a wonderful time during our visit to your corner of paradise. You and Colleen are great hosts and we always look forward to our visits with you. And now you've added Sam to the list of attractions! Glenn and Mary
Hi Dave, Thanks again for one of the best nights of fishing that I have had in a long time. I really love those late nights when fish feed for hours. It is tough fishing but fun. I am very glad you got that fish! How did you and Henry do last night? Thanks Stacy
Dave: Thanks very much for the awesome time on the flats. I am psyched that I caught that beautiful bone fish. However, I hope to be fly-fishing this summer and get ready to head back down and try to catch one on the fly. Thanks for the fishing experience of a lifetime. Michael G. Warren
Dave Wyss has guided me for over 20 years. He is about the best guide in the Grayling area. He knows his business very well and is always personable and accommodating. I like him as a friend as well as a guide. I will recommend him to anyone. Francis (Bud) Phelps
When Dave Wyss was fifteen, he started guiding on the AuSable with his uncle, Jim Wakeley.Dave matured fast, and soon embarrased his uncle Jim by coming in with the best catch of the day too frequently. Dave is more than a guide. He is an interesting companion always keeping your success for the day as a goal. Should you be looking for a successful, enjoyable day on a Michigan Trout Stream, Dave is a wise choice. George Griffith
Dear Dave: Karin and I had a great time with you on Sunday. We will be back! Mayo T. Smith
Jim Haynes has good things to say about a floatfishing trip he enjoyed on Michigan’s AuSable River this past June with Dave Wyss of Guilt-Trip Charters. Haynes reports catching abundant numbers of brown and brook trout, plus some rainbows. He says the browns ran from 12 inches to 24 inches in length, and the brookies measured f rom six to nine inches. Haynes says he caught his largest fish at night, during the spinner fall of hex mayflies, operating mostly by sound. In between fish, he says Wyss would simply wait in the dark, listening for the loud gulp made by a big, rising brown. Then, he would quietly move the boat to within casting distance of the sound. All the fishing was conducted from an AuSable River boat, a specially designed and handcrafted vessel traditionally used in this area for floating the river. According to Haynes, the boat is a flat-bottomed and rather low, skinny craft that easily rides the current. The guide stands in the back of the boat and uses a pole to steer. To control speed, he drags different-sized chains behind the boat. Haynes says the AuSable is not easy to fish because there is a lot of cover in the water and overhanging trees. He also says many conditions must be right to fish here, including time of year, temperatures and wind conditions, plus the various hatches of sulphers, stoneflies, brown drakes and hex mayflies. With these caveats in mind, he recommends the trip and gives Wyss an all-excellent rating. He says that Wyss knows the area and necessary conditions well, plus works hard to put his clients on fish.
Dave: Thanks again for taking my husband Tracy and I fishing last Thursday. Except for my colleagues who were with me at Ocean Reef, no one believes that I caught a fish, no less an 18 lb. tarpon. So, if you get a chance, would you please send me a copy of the picture that you so graciously took of me and my catch? It was honestly one of the best moments that I've had in a LONG time. You were a GREAT guide, and we look forward to fishing with you again next year!
Thanks and regards, Elizabeth C Bannister
Dave, I would like to thank you for the great fishing trip Matthew & I had with you on the 17th. Matthews' fish was the biggest one he has caught to date. The Tarpon I fought was one of the biggest fish I have ever caught and certainly the toughest fighter!! That fish certainly was a tough one and wanted to be free as much as I wanted to catch him. We had a great time fishing with you and I hope that I will get a chance to fish with you again. Again, THANK YOU, I enjoyed our time with you in Key Largo and the fishing trip with you was the highlights of our week there.
